Aongatete Lodge
Every even year 2022, 2024, 2026, our school enjoys a 4 day camping experience in the beautiful Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park, midway between Tauranga and Katikati. The programme aims to engage students in first hand experiences that assists them in developing confidence, a sense of adventure and an attitude of responsibility, particular toward their own and others’ safety. Our students have access to rivers, bush, ocean environments and mountains. These areas are a part of their playground so they need to have a set of basic skills and knowledge to use these safely. A week at Aongatete opens these worlds and increases their awareness of the magnificent resources we have in our own backyard.
The contribution for the 2024 camping programme is approximately $200.00 which will cover food, travel and accommodation.
Each class will also need parents willingly to participate in the camping programme. Please attend the February “Meet the Teacher” evenings for further information.
New Horizons
Every ‘odd’ year (2023, 2025, 2027), our Berkley education outside the classroom programme provides an exciting set of opportunities, known as New Horizons. Instead of going on a “camping” experience as a class, students select from a very wide range of activities.
In 2023, the options offered ranged from a $30.00 school-based activity to a $500.00 experience, based in Northland and involved sailing and snorkelling in the Bay of Islands.
Each New Horizons programme offers a slightly different set of activities. A booklet outlining all the activities available will be sent home with your child. It is important that you read all options and then carefully match your interests. Each student is required to select 4 activities they wish to be enrolled in. You have the opportunity to list these in order of preference.
Hillary Outdoors - Great Barrier Island
Each year students have the opportunity to apply to attend the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre based on Great Barrier Island. Students must be physically fit and keen to learn team building, leadership and problem solving skills in an outdoor environment on and around Great Barrier Island.
Students apply for this experience during term 2 and the programme will take place in term 4.
