Kapa Haka at Berkley provides ākonga with the opportunity to experience Māori Performing Arts in an inclusive and connected environment. We aim to build a sense of whanaungatanga amongst our roopu whilst sharing knowledge, language and cultural customs through waiata, haka, stories, and traditional games.
We have been proud to have been involved with a range of performances and leadership opportunities for ākonga, such as the Hillcrest COL Festival, performances at our local primary schools, the annual WIMS Festival, as well as school performances and pōwhiri.
School Productions
Our biennial school production is always a highlight of the school year. Involving a large group of students in a range of on-stage roles, the production allows students to showcase their acting, dancing, singing and performing talent. Our behind the scenes team encourages our students to get involved in backstage roles involving, set design, props, wardrobe, hair, makeup, sound and lighting that brings any performance together.
Every other year we hold a Performing Arts Festival - this is an opportunity for students to work together to stage a range of performing arts including dance groups, cultural groups, bands and theatre sports. It is a great showcase of the theatrical and our students have a lot of fun choreographing and taking part in helping to produce this performance extravaganza.
Big Band
Berkley’s Big Band provides an opportunity for like-minded musicians to perform as a collective. Musicians play in a larger ensemble and practice contributing as an individual to the success of the larger group. Students perform in the WIMS music day in Te Awamutu as well as at school assemblies and Performing Arts evenings.
