Kia ora and welcome to Room 23!
My name is Sarah Stevenson and I am your classroom teacher this year. I am excited to get to know the students of Room 23 and your families. Year 7's - I am sure you are excited and nervous to be starting your journey at Berkley. Returning year 8 students - I am sure you are ready to have a positive year of growth, developing new friendships, and overcoming challenges.
My passion for teaching began while I was teaching in Hong Kong and Tokyo and I am thrilled to be continuing my teaching journey at Berkley Normal Middle School in 2024. Travel is a big part of my life and I especially enjoy travelling back to Asia to eat my favourite foods such as hotpot, sushi, dumplings, and chilli noodles.
Something that made me smile over the summer break was spending time with my family and friends at the beach and relaxing in the sunshine reading some of my favourite books.
In Room 23, our classroom will be a safe, respectful, caring, and fun environment where every student will be encouraged and celebrated for who they are. With my support and guidance, you will be challenged to reach your goals and become the emerging adolescent you strive to be.
You will hear our Berkley motto of Take up the Challenge a lot this year and so I encourage you to make the most of all the opportunities at Berkley, listen for things that interest you, and give everything a go.
